The National Insurance Academy (NIA Pune, often known as NIA) is a non-profit organization based in Pune, India. Established in 1980 by the Indian government’s Finance Department with funding from the LIC and the public sector general insurance market. NIA began MBA education as a lateral diversification in 2004 with Dr. K C Mishra as the founding director and Dr. R K Parchure as the MBA Coordinator, who was quickly replaced by Dr. S D Totade. After Dr. K C Mishra’s stint, the academy’s next Director was Dr. Prathap Oburai of IIM Ahmedabad. During his time here, Dr. Oburai assured the students that the academy will be elevated to the top 10 B-Schools in India, with significant international connections. The NIA offers a PGDM program. It offers a dual specialty (insurance + finance/marketing/human resources/information technology).
